Why Ride AERUS Carbon Wheels?

First and foremost AERUS wheels are carbon fiber so they are fast and light. However, not all carbon fiber wheels are made equal. AERUS wheels are made using a unique machine-automated filament winding process. It is the most advanced technology to make carbon rims. The precise machine work results in a much stronger carbon rim than manual layup. It gives some critical advantages:

Each carbon fiber layer is being evenly distributed and tightly bonded, enabling maximum strength. This process also avoids the random layup error and leads to a higher accuracy and precision. Precise layup settings give understanding of layer application and where layers need to be added to increase the strength or removed to reduce the weight.

The lighter a rim needs to be the stronger the material it needs to maintain stiffness. Our carbon fiber wheels use a combination of Toray T700, T800 and T1000 filaments. Toray is the world’s largest producer of carbon fiber with most of it used by the aeronautical and defense industries. The wheels are built with carbon fiber pre-preg in the manufacturing process using a clean weaving shed with turning bobbins of Toray filament that makes woven sheets. These carbon sheets are then impregnated with high temperature resin.

The resin process in wheel manufacturing is one of the most important factors to avoid heat failure on the brake track. The AERUS wheels manufacturing process has its own developed resin system making the carbon rims safely withstand more heat and leading to improved braking performance.
